Pond plants algae reprieve

Adding pond plants certainly cuts the algae growth. However, too many can have a significant toxic affect if you don't monitor the water. You can see the dark green water behind this tiny plant. They removed the algae in less than two months. To give us a clear view of the creatures living in the pond.

While this new addition has helped to clean our pond. We have lost numerous plants due to the colder weather. You must remove them as they can foul the water.

You could spend hundreds of dollars on plants. Or you might want to bring them indoors for the winter. These fast growers are called water hyacinths. They will expand quickly when winter finally lifts her dark cold shield and once again sun shines through.

They are illegal in many states. Due to the fact they can choke off a lake, river or your own pond quickly. Their roots grow long and spiny, they will kill fish if allowed to choke off your pond. You must trim the roots back. These are a hardy plant that has amazing algae removal. If your state allows them get at least six by summers end you may have fifty or more. Happy ponding.
